Diamonds in Our DNA
The Brosh family tradition began in Middletown, Ohio, where a young Charles Brosh got his start in the jewelry business. Through study and apprenticeships, he learned the art of watchmaking, hand engraving, jewelry repair and stone setting.
In his early 20’s, Charles worked for Cincinnati-based H. H. Mayer Jewelers. While employed there, he was sent to Missouri to manage their newly acquired Poplar Bluff chain. It was in Poplar Bluff where Charles met a fellow manager in the business, Phillip Long. Though they were competitors, they soon became good friends.
In 1944 Charles and Phillip became business partners and opened Brosh-Long Jewelers in Newport, Arkansas. Newport was the county seat of Jackson County and had the added benefit of steady railroad traffic – a perfect situation for Charles and Phillip.
After Phillip Long died, Charles purchased the remaining shares of Brosh-Long Jewelers from Long’s estate and eventually handed-off the business to his son, Patric. Charles passed away in 2007, but his legacy lives on. The tradition of excellence, craftsmanship and customer service that were key to the success of Brosh-Long Jewelers are the cornerstones of Romance Diamond Company today.
While retaining co-ownership of Brosh-Long Jewelers, Charles Brosh became Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Lovebright Diamond Company in New York City. His position at Lovebright helped Brosh-Long gain direct access to exclusive products.
