The devil is in the detail, and the jewelry on your big day is no exception. And that includes your lovely bridesmaid! Here are some Do’s and Don’ts to picking the right pieces to make your bridesmaids shine.
The Do’s and Don’ts
1. DO let them decide. It’s their prerogative!
You can absolutely give them guidelines– specific necklace and earring length, stay in the pearl family, etc. But you want their personal style to show through, so be sure to give them the freedom to choose what makes them feel best!
DON’T pick over-the-top pieces that only YOU love.
Simplicity is key in finding pieces that work with everyone’s individual style and taste. Try to steer clear of large, colorful pieces especially if the bridesmaids dresses are bold on their own.
2. DO pick a theme!
Having a universal theme for your big day can make it that much easier for your girls to accessorize. Encourage them to choose pieces that complement existing parts of your wedding style and your bridal jewelry.
DON’T distract from the bride.
Hopefully with the freedom the bride gives her maids, they know to air on the side of simplicity when picking jewelry. In all your decisions as a bridesmaid, you want to be sure that the focus remains on the bride for her special day. That means no jewelry that is too gaudy, flashy, or bright.
3. DO be mindful of necklaces and necklines.
There are countless different necklines for bridesmaid dresses and not every necklace fits them. Be sure to understand what chain lengths look best with different dresses. A 14-inch chain works with almost any neckline.
DON’T add a timepiece to your look.
There’s no real reason to be looking down at a watch, constantly checking the time on your big day. As your gals begin accessorizing, be sure to ask them to leave their watches at home!
4. DO have an accessory party!
Make an event out of it! Have your whole bridal party go to a bead store and MAKE necklaces and earrings for the big day together. Not only is it a fun bonding experience for you and your maids, it also gives them the opportunity to let their creative juices flow and create pieces of jewelry that they love.
DON’T go too trendy.
Timelessness is what you want to focus on when picking any jewelry for a wedding. You can save trendiness for another time when you’re not having a million photos taken of you that may come back to haunt you. Pick the classic pieces of jewelry that never go out of style and that make you feel beautiful.
